“The transfiguration happens every day at Id-Dar tal-Providenza” – Mgr. Charles J. Scicluna, Archbishop-elect

At id-Dar tal-Providenza, which is so close to the Church’s heart and to Maltese society, the transiguration happens every day. This was stated by Mgr. Charles J.Scicluna in his homily during a concelebrated Mass at the Chapel of the Home in Siġġiewi where he made his first pastoral visit as the new Archbishop of Malta. He said that during this Golden Jubilee year for id-Dar tal-Providernza that started with the inspiration of Dun Mikiel Azzopardi one can look at the disability as something worrying, but with the generosity of the Maltese, disability is no longer hidden but with love and dedication it has been transfigured. He ended saying “may those who visit this Home of shelter and peace of mind, although they see the pain of Golgota they would never forget the glory of the Tabor”.

In his speech, Fr Martin Micallef, Director of id-Dar tal-Providenza, welcomed the Archbisop-elect to the Home which Mgr Azzopardi used to refer to as the ‘oasis of Christian charity’ and which he refers to as ‘the human face of the Maltese Church’. Fr Martin said that he was glad to hear Mgr Scicluna saying during these last few days that he wished to be the pastor who listens. He pleaded with him to listen to what persons with disability have to say and reminded him of their slogan ‘nothing about us without us’. “Allow me to suggest to you,” said Fr Martin “that you find time to meet up with persons with disability, with their parents, with their associations so that you can clearly understand how the Church in Malta can respond more to their difficulties, expectations and aspirations. He ended by saying the Home’s gift were the daily prayers so that Mgr Charles Scicluna will truly be the pastor of his flock.

The Archbishop-elect also found time to meet up with the residents, administration, employees and volunteers of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
