Id-Dar tal-Providenza and Malta Catholic Action commemorate Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi
“Id-Dar tal-Providenza is indebted to the Malta Catholic Action that from the very beginning was along side Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi in his dream and work on the building of a home for persons with disability.” Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, said this during a Eucharistic Celebration commemorating the twenty-ninth anniversary of the death of Mgr Azzopardi. He said that through its Commission for the sick and the disabled, the Catholic Action continues to see that persons with disability are given what is theirs by right.
The Mass was concelebrated by Arcbishop Emeritus, Mgr Pawl Cremona OP, assisted by Fr Martin, Fr Lino Cardona SJ and Fr Reuben Gauci, Ecclesiastical Assistant of the Youths Catholic Action (ZAK). In his homily, the Archbishop reflected on the feast of Pentecoste and said that it was the Holy Spirit that inspired Dun Mikiel to foster religious education to school children by means of his schools broadcasts, to care for the sick and to focus on persons with disability. His deep faith in God led him to build id-Dar tal-Providenza because as he always used to say “God is indeed almighty”.
Mr Josef Debono, President of the Malta Catholic Action also delivered a short speech. President Emeritus, Dr Eddie Fenech Adami also attended the commemorative celebration.
At the end of the celebration, Archbishop Emeritus Cremona prayed on and blessed Dun Mikiel’s grave. Dun Mikiel was born in Valletta on February 10th, 1910 and died on May 13th, 1987.
