€ 7,500 raised during 34-hour Marathon in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza
Six hundred persons managed to raise €7,500 during a 34-hour Abseiling marathon held this past weekend in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza. The marathon, that was held on the Mosta Bridge over the weekend, kicked off early Saturday morning and ran till late Sunday evening. It was organised by the Mosta Scout Group with the collaboration of the Mosta Local Council and Radio RTK. The sum raised will be presented during the New Year’s ‘Feast of Generosity’ produced by RTK and Id-Dar tal-Providenza. Over the last five years a total of € 20,700 was collected.
On Saturday, Archbishop Emeritus, Mgr Paul Cremona OP blessed the participants at the kick off for the marathon whilst Archbishop Mgr Charles J. Scicluna made sure to turn up and chat with the organisers and some of the younger generation taking part. Mosta Mayor Mr Edwin Vassallo also met some of the participants.
Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, joined Mr Edward Vella, the Mosta Scout Group Leader, in recognising the hard work put in by around forty-five volunteers in the organisation and running of the Abseiling marathon for the Siġġiewi home.
Mr David Agius, Opposition spokesperson, put on the safety gear and abseiled the bridge. Independent MP Ms Marlene Farrugia and her partner, Labour Party Whip, Dr Godfrey Farrugia rode the 100 metre Zip Line across the valley.
Those that took part in the 34-hour Abseiling marathon were asked to make a donation of €12 for daytime abseiling and €6 during the night. Participants were provided with training and a choice of abseil either against the wall of the bridge or through one of the arches (free fall) as well as the 100-metre Zip Line that was introduced this.
