The sixth BOV Volleyball Marathon for Id-Dar tal-Providenza launched
The BOV Volleyball Marathon, a 53-hour challenge in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, was officially inaugurated by H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta. She was accompanied by Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
On her arrival, H.E. the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was welcomed by the Band of the Armed Forces of Malta, and given a warm welcome by everyone present. In her speech, she thanked the group of 300-strong volunteers for their dedication in helping the residents of this Home. “It gives me great satisfaction to be here today on this occasion. Such an event brings out the best in everyone, and is the optimal manner in which we can commemorate the memory of Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi and his vision, particularly this year when we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of his dream, a dream that is still very much alive today, thanks to the dedication of Fr Martin and everyone present here.”
In his brief intervention, Fr Martin Micallef thanked the general public, for their unfailing support. “For fifty years, the Home has been an emblem of the spirit of solidarity of the Maltese people. We are here today to continue nourishing this spirit and taking forward the dream of our founder, which is sustained by Providence.” He highlighted the value of voluntary work that is the backbone of the BOV Volleyball Marathon, whilst also emphasising the importance of showing respect to and safeguarding the dignity of people with special needs.
Bank of Valletta is supporting this event for the sixth consecutive year, through its philanthropic arm, The Marigold Foundation.
During the launch of the BOV Volleyball Marathon, Mrs Michelle Muscat, Chairperson of The Marigold Foundation – BOV in the Community continued to show her support for Id-Dar tal-Providenza. The marathon will run until Sunday 5th July at the grounds of the Home itself. In addition to supporting the players who will be playing volleyball, visitors may enjoy some of Malta’s best talent. Lawrence Grey, Eleonor Cassar, Fabrizio Faniello and Marilena Gauci are only a few of the names who will be entertaining those present at Id-Dar tal-Providenza this weekend.
