Festa Għeneb (Wine Fest) in Siġġiewi

The third edition of Festa Għeneb (Wine Fest) will take place this Saturday August 23rd from 7.00pm onwards in Pjazza San Nikola in Siġġiewi. The Wine Fest is an activity for all the family celebrating the collection of the grapes (vendemmia) from vineyards grown in Siġġiewi.

The Mayor of Siġġiewi, Karol Aquilina announced that the wine that will be pressed will be bottled and sold with all profits going towards id-Dar tal-Providenza. With around 530,00 square metres of vineyards, Siġġiewi is the locality with the largest concentration of vineyards. It is estimated that more than 400 Siġġiewi families are directly involved in the upkeep of these vineyards. During this Wine Fest there will be the traditional pressing of crushed grapes in a huge stone vat purposely prepared in St Nicholas Square.

This activity is organised by the Local Council of Siġġiewi in conjunction with Vitimalta, the largest organization of producers in Malta. It also has the cooperation of the Maltese Tourism Authority, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights.
