The BOV Volleyball Marathon 2014 in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza formally launched
The 2014 edition of the BOV Volleyball Marathon 2014, in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza was officially launched during a press conference addressed by Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza and Ms Michelle Muscat, Chairperson of ‘The Marigold Foundation – BOV in the Community’.
The BOV Volleyball Marathon 2014 will be inaugurated by H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca President of Malta on Friday 4th July 2014 at 5.30pm in the car-park at Id-Dar tal-Providenza and come to an end at 12.00pm on Sunday 6th July after 53 hours of continuous play.
The aim of the Marathon is to collect funds for Id-Dar tal-Providenza, the Church-run home that offers residential and respite services to persons with disabilities in a family-like environment which enhances and maximises their abilities with a view to ensuring their full participation in society.
‘The BOV Volleyball Marathon is a cocktail of a large group of people volunteering their free time for a good cause, a sporting spectacle, and the Maltese Community that comes together to assist us in giving a better quality of life to our residents’ said Fr Micallef. ‘We invite the public to come over to Id-Dar tal-Providenza over the weekend of the Marathon to support the players, meet our residents and feel part of an initiative for the better of the Community.’
”The Marigold Foundation – BOV in the Community’ is Bank of Valletta’s link with the community which seeks to assist organisations to reach their full potential and thus enable them to make a positive impact on our society,’ said Mrs Muscat. “We appeal to the public to lend a helping hand so that this marathon is a success and enough funds are raise to enable Id-Dar tal-Providenza it to continue to pursue the critical role that it plays within the Maltese society.”
‘A group of over 300 volunteers, between players, organisers and helpers are working around the clock to ensure that the marathon is a success’ said Emanuel Zammit, Chairman of the BOV Volleyball Marathon organising committee. ‘Once again, the Marathon will feature on the main TV stations and donations can be made by telephone, by SMS and through Bank of Valletta’s BOV Mobile Pay’, added Mr Zammit.
