President Abela on last official visit to Id-Dar tal-Providenza
The President of Malta, Dr George Abela made a last official visit to Id-Dar tal-Providenza in Siġġiewi before he ends his tenure of office in a few weeks time. He has made it a point to visit the Home many times during his presidency to show his endearment to the Home and above all his commitment in favour of equal opportunities for persons with disability in Malta. In his welcome speech, Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, highlighted part of the speech that the President made five years ago where he appealed for an inclusive society based on social justice and solidarity. A kindhearted society that embraces everyone, whatever the status and culture.
When meeting the residents. Dr Abela reiterated the need for a kindhearted society and praised what he termed as the vocation of the carers that work with the Home’s residents with so much care, dedication and love. President Abela said he hoped that Id-Dar tal-Providenza continues to have dedicated administrators and workers to improve even more the quality service offered to its residents.
During lunch in honour of the President, Fr Martin presented Dr Abela with a set of books that contained the Encyclicals and Apostolic Exhortations of Pope John Paul II.
