Attempt to climb MT Etna in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza

Between the 21st and 24th March, twelve employees of Ascent Software will attempt to climb Mt Etna in Sicily to raise funds for Id-Dar tal-Providenza. Joining this group will be Dr Gregory Attard, himself a well known mountaineer. During a press conference at the company’s office in Ħal Luqa, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing, Dr Franco Mercieca praised this initiative and stressed on how important it is that one gives something without expecting anything in return.

Dr Mercieca mentioned the important mission undertaken by Id-Dar tal-Providenza and said that the Government is committed to continue helping the Home by entering into a partnership arrangement when Id-Dar tal-Providenza opens another home in the community, this time in Ħaż-Żabbar.
Shadow Minister, Dr Stephen Spiteri said a courageous initiative such as this also proves a challenge to these young employees. He urged other commercial entities to do something on the same lines.

Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza said that apart from helping Id-Dar tal-Providenza which is experiencing rising costs on a daily basis, an activity like this shows team spirit and helps unite further the employees within the company.

The twelve climbers will be accompanied by the company’s Managing Director, Mr Joseph Sultana, who said that Ascent Software will contribute to the expenses of all those taking part and will also be donating €150 per participant towards Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
As part of the Ascent Etna Software Challenge, ICT students were asked to develop an application software that can decypher a secret message. The winner has been invited to joing the climbers on Mt Etna with all expenses paid by the company.

The Ascent Adrenaline Day – 13th of April 2014: An event open to the general public which aims to give a taste of the adventures encountered during the Etna climb. The event will consist of activities to the likes of climbing and abseiling.
