€8,180 raised for Id-Dar tal-Providenza
€8,180 raised for Id-Dar tal-Providenza from the Kalkara Charity Swim held at the Rinella Bay and from the activity ‘Soho with the Stars’ held some months ago will be donated to the Home during the Feast of Generosity organised by RTK4Charity on New Year’s Day. Both activities were organised by a group of four young people: Keith Sultana, Shana Gafà, Iliza Farrugia and Claire Bugeja,
In Rinella Bay in Kalkara, more than fifty people decided to brave the cold weather and dive in the waters and managed to raise €8,180 for Id-Dar tal-Providenza. The organisers saw to it that the activity would be a family event and those that were not courageous enough to dive in attended just the same and made their donation whilst the children were entertained with animations from Disney characters and facepainting.
This was the first edition of the Kalkara Charity Swim and it seems that it was well received so much so that the organisers vowed to make the Charity Swim an annual event. Present for the activity were the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Joe Mizzi who hails from Kalkara, the Opposition spokesperson for persons with disability, Dr Stephen Spiteri, the Kalkara Mayor, Mrs Speranza Chircop and the Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Fr Martin Micallef. They all stressed on the importance of such fund-raising events and urged the Maltese people to continue to show generosity and solidarity with those who need it.
