‘SPRED’ Cathecists renew their commitment
Around 80 volunteer cathecists of SPRED (Special Religious Development) whose role is to accompany in faith persons with intellectual disability who are residents of Id-Dar tal-Providenza in Siggiewi, have renewed their commitment and received their mandate for the period 2013-2014.
During this Celebration-Meeting, held at the Boy Scouts Headquarters in Floriana, the cathecists reflected on the eleven-year presence of SPRED in Malta. The President of Notre Dame University in Chicago, Rev John I. Jenkins refers to the SPRED commitment as a crucial but often forgotten ministry in the Church. Intellectual disability should never hinder Christ’s calling or the right of those who respond to it to enable large numbers of intellectually disabled persons to rightfully take their place around the Eucharistic table.
