€970 raised by students of St Ignatius College Siggiewi Primary
On Sunday 27 April 2014, the EkoSkola committee of St. Ignatius College Siġġiewi Primary organised a 6km fun walk in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza and raised €970 in the process. Children, parents and staff walked all the way to Id-Dar tal-Providenza where they attended the 10.00am mass held at the Home’s chapel.
At the begining of the mass the EkoSkola Children’s committee presented to Fr Martin Micallef, the Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, the amount collected by all those who participated in the event. Another donation was presented by the Siġġiewi Banif Bank Manager.
Head of St. Ignatius College Siġġiewi Primary, Mr Patrick Decelis thanked all those who organised, sponsored and participated in this activity. The fun walk was sponsored by a number of local businesses and provided the students with an excellent opportunity to directly implement principles discussed at school whilst working beyond school boundaries and involve themselves in the community.
The EkoSkola programme being implemented in a number of schools across Malta and Gozo focuses on developing children into responsible citizens. Voluntary work is an excellent hands-on approach to reach this aim.
