34-hour Abseiling Marathon in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza
Around 300 people are expected to take part in this year’s 34-hour Abseiling Marathon organized by the Mosta Scouts Group in collaboration with RTK4Charity. This will be taking place between Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November on the Mosta Bridge, all in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza. This was announced by Mr Edward Vella, for the Mosta Scouts Group, who said that another twenty-five people have volunteered their time to help out. He recalled that €7,000 have been raised in past editions and this year’s sum will be presented during the Feast of Generosity on New Year’s Day.
Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, said that such a marathon is indeed appreciated because it reflects the support given by Maltese society to the work done by Id-Dar tal-Providenza and also serves to raise much needed funds for the Home to continue doing the work it is doing and better the services it provides.
Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youths and Sport, Dr Stefan Buontempo said that activities such as this should be further encouraged and he thanked both Id-Dar tal-Providenza and RTK4Charity for the sterling work they do. Mr Robert Cutajar, Shadow Minister for the Opposition, appealed for more persons to take part in this marathon and said that when he was Mayor of Mellieha he made it a point to support Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
All those wishing to participate in this Abseiling marathon will be requested to make a €12 donation during the day or a €6 during the night. All participants will be given the necessary training as well as the choice of abseiling they want to do. Anyone wanting more information may call on 7970 7924 or 99233207 for details.
